Sauk Prairie Recreation Commission is Hiring a Recreation Coordinator Near Sauk, WI

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Under the direction and supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Recreation Coordinator will lead event rentals, facility management and programming for the new Culver Community Park (CCP). Essential duties will include recruiting rentals, coordinating programs and other events for the park facility.

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned by director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program and Event Functions:

1. Promote CCP for event rentals such as weddings, showers, reunions, graduation parties, birthday parties, business retreats and meetings and more. Sports tournament recruitment will also be a major focus.

2. Recruit volunteers to assist with events and functions within CCP. Establish relationships with people about volunteering. Create a database of people willing to help with the park, and know what areas they are interested in helping with.

3. Assists Director and other Recreation staff in planning, organizing, developing, scheduling and evaluating events at CCP. Partner with concessions supervisor on needs for events, rentals and programs.

4. Process event rentals and recreational program registrations both online and in person. Host tours of CCP to promote CCP rentals and events.

5. Prepares marketing materials; flyers, letters, brochures, social media and media releases regarding CCP rental opportunities, events, recreation programs, park updates and other activities for publication. Partner with our local Chamber of Commerce.

6. Secure alternative funding through grants, sponsorships and fundraising for programs and special events.

Maintenance Coordination Functions:

1. Coordinate and schedule staff and volunteers to clean buildings, line fields and any other maintenance needed at Culver Community Park.

2. Become trained on all field maintenance equipment to assist when needed.

3. Communicate regularly with recreation and parks staff regarding field usage and major maintenance items of concern.

Budgeting and Office Functions:

1. Assist with preparation of purchase orders, and submit vouchers for payment of bills.

2. Keep helpful data records to see what type of groups we most appeal to, which groups and events lead revenue generation efforts for the park, how many people are attending particular events, etc.

3. Serve as a public contact person for the department, be knowledgeable in all areas of recreation program and the department. Respond to citizen requests and complaints concerning recreational activities. Use their feedback for future programs. Promotes programs and maintains positive relationships with municipalities, school officials, community service groups, and the public.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

1. Possess knowledge of the principles, philosophy and practices of recreation management (i.e. program planning, leadership, risk management, budgeting, public relations, etc.)

2. Understanding of the recreation needs and interest of the Sauk Prairie area and the ability to meet such needs with innovative programs and services that effectively promotes participations in healthy and enjoyable recreation experiences.

3. The ability to plan, promote and evaluate recreational programs and services for the community.

4. The ability to participate in active sports and recreation activities, ability to organize and direct fitness/recreation related programs.

5. The ability to facilitate group discussion and activities among diverse participants for purposes of developing a cohesive and unifying organizational structure.

6. The ability to communicate effectively orally and written.

7. The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with residents, municipal officials and recreation group representatives.

8. Knowledge of recreation/athletic facility development and maintenance.

9. Excellent customer relations skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Two (2) years of experience in recreation programming with an emphasis on supervision, recreation programming, and facility management

2. Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Administration or similar field preferred

3. Evenings, weekends, and holiday hours may at times be required.

4. Previous experience working with children.

5. Previous experience in marketing recreational programs.

6. Current Bartenders License or ability to obtain

7. Current CPR and First Aid required or able to obtain in 60 days.

8. Must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.

Additional Skills/Experience Desired

1. Experience and proficiency in the operation of personal computers, Microsoft software applications and data base management.

2. Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.

3. Ability to communicate effectively with non-English speaking public.

4. Demonstrated ability in obtaining and administering grants

5. Ability and willingness to learn

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION:

The Recreation Coordinator position requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, sit and stand for periods of up to 4 hours. Comprehend written and oral instructions, communicate effectively both orally and in written form. Position requires the ability to operate motorized vehicles, including the ability to travel to/from meeting sites and facilities. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the person selected for this position must be able to perform the physical requirements of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation.
